Regional NHS Trust — Electronic Patient Record Infrastructure Architecture

A regional NHS Trust in the North West of England was undertaking the procurement and implementation of a new electronic patient record system covering three hospitals and associated community services. The Trust's internal IT team had produced a requirements document for the underlying infrastructure, but the Trust's Chief Digital Officer had concerns that the requirements were insufficiently detailed to support a competitive procurement process and that critical resilience and security architecture had not been adequately addressed.

NETWISE LTD was engaged to review the existing requirements, identify gaps, produce a detailed reference architecture and develop a suite of technical specification documents suitable for use in the formal procurement.

Sector
NHS Healthcare
Location
North West England
Services Delivered
Architecture Design, Infrastructure Planning, Technical Consulting
Engagement Duration
Fourteen weeks
Outcome
NETWISE LTD produced a complete infrastructure reference architecture, covering compute, storage, networking, clinical network segmentation, disaster recovery design and IG Toolkit-aligned security architecture. The procurement documents were used to run a competitive tender resulting in a contract awarded below the original budget estimate. The implemented system has operated with greater than 99.9% uptime across all three sites in the three years since commissioning.
Financial services technical advisory and architecture review

Financial Services Group — Trading Platform Architecture Review and Remediation

A mid-size financial services group operating across the UK and Ireland had commissioned the development of a new algorithmic trading platform from a specialist software house. Eighteen months into a planned twenty-four month development programme, the group's board received a report from its internal audit function raising concerns about the architectural approach, the adequacy of disaster recovery provisions and the platform's compliance with FCA technical risk requirements.

NETWISE LTD was engaged to conduct an independent technical review of the current architecture, assess the specific concerns raised in the internal audit report, evaluate the proposed remediation plan from the software house and provide a recommended course of action to the board.

Sector

Location

Services Delivered

Engagement Duration
Eight weeks
Outcome
NETWISE LTD confirmed the substantive concerns in the internal audit report, identified additional architectural issues not previously noted, assessed the software house's proposed remediation as partially adequate and produced a revised remediation recommendation. The board accepted the NETWISE recommendation, renegotiated the delivery contract with the software house and the platform subsequently passed FCA technical risk review without further major modification.
Manufacturing group ERP systems integration data centre
Manufacturing · ERP Integration P·03

Manufacturing Group — Multi-Site ERP Systems Integration Architecture

A UK manufacturing group with seven production facilities across England and Wales had implemented a group-wide ERP system to replace the disparate legacy systems operating at each site. The ERP implementation had been completed by the ERP vendor's professional services team, but eighteen months after go-live, the group was experiencing significant data quality problems, inconsistent reporting across sites and a backlog of manual reconciliation work estimated at three hundred hours per month across the business.

NETWISE LTD was engaged to assess the root cause of the data quality issues, design a remediation architecture for the integration layer and produce specifications for the required technical changes to be implemented by the group's internal IT team.

Sector

Location

Services Delivered
Systems Integration, Technical Consulting, Architecture Design
Engagement Duration
Twelve weeks plus four-week implementation oversight
Outcome
The assessment identified five root causes across data mapping errors, insufficient exception handling and inadequate master data governance. NETWISE LTD designed a remediation architecture and produced detailed implementation specifications. Following implementation, the monthly manual reconciliation workload reduced from three hundred hours to under twenty hours, and cross-site reporting data quality reached acceptable standards within two months of the remediation going live.
Retail omnichannel technology platform design workspace
Retail · Platform Design P·04

National Retail Chain — Omnichannel Technology Platform Architecture

A national retail chain with over two hundred stores and an established online channel was preparing to commission the design of a unified omnichannel technology platform to replace its separate in-store, online and fulfilment systems. The board had approved a significant capital allocation but wished to undertake an independent architecture phase before entering any implementation contracts, having experienced cost and scope problems on previous technology programmes.

NETWISE LTD was engaged to lead the architecture phase, working with the retailer's internal team, key business stakeholders and technology leaders to produce a complete reference architecture and a detailed implementation roadmap with phasing and risk profile.

Sector

Services Delivered
Systems Architecture, Technical Consulting, Infrastructure Planning
Engagement Duration
Sixteen weeks
Outcome
NETWISE LTD produced a complete omnichannel platform reference architecture covering inventory management, order management, customer data platform, payment processing, in-store systems and fulfilment coordination. The architecture was used as the basis for an RFP process, resulting in a competitive procurement that came in fifteen percent below the board's approved capital budget. The phased implementation roadmap produced by NETWISE is being used to govern the ongoing delivery programme.
Local authority digital transformation programme planning
Public Sector · Transformation P·05

Local Authority — Digital Transformation Programme Architecture

A district council in the North West of England was required by central government funding conditions to deliver a defined digital transformation programme within a thirty-six month period. The council had limited internal technical capacity and had engaged a systems integrator to lead the programme. However, the council's Section 151 Officer had concerns that the integrator's proposed architecture was over-engineered for the council's scale and that the pricing appeared uncompetitive given the technical scope proposed.

NETWISE LTD was engaged as an independent technical advisor to assess the integrator's proposed architecture, evaluate whether it was appropriate to the council's scale and requirements, identify any unnecessary complexity or cost and advise on a revised technical approach if warranted.

Sector

Location

Services Delivered

Engagement Duration
Six weeks
Outcome
NETWISE LTD confirmed the council's concerns, identifying significant over-engineering in the proposed architecture and producing an alternative reference architecture appropriate to the council's actual scale. The council used this assessment to renegotiate the integrator's scope and pricing, achieving a twenty-two percent reduction in the programme budget while improving the technical approach. The programme subsequently delivered all required transformation milestones within the funding period.
